Why I Dance – Lucienne Domingue
My name is Lucienne Domingue, I am 14 years old and dance has been a very important thing in my life since before I can remember. I joined The Pretenders Studio after my older sister Blythe did, and that was one of the greatest decisions I have ever made.
I dance not just because of the actual dancing but because of the people too. Pretenders really shows the community what you can build through dance—both close friendships and visible impacts on the larger community through community service driven by our dance family.
For me personally, having something to show up to everyday is so important especially since there are so many things that are temporary. Dance has always been a constant in my life and I know it always will. I dance for the freeing, relieving, escape from complicated reality. I am able to express myself beyond words through dance. I dance for the opportunity to inform the world about a very wide range of topics and for the indescribable feeling you get when you start to see the hard work you put in pay off.
The Pretenders teaches more than just dance…but it is hard to describe in words.
I could sit here and talk about what I love about dance and try and get you to feel it too, but you need to truly experience it to understand. So sign up for a class, drop in for a dance masterclass, or even put on a song you like and just start dancing. I have learned that there are no rules, just be you, express yourself and find a dance home… that’s what dance is truly about, that’s why I dance.
